John R. Liskey joined the Klug Law Firm as "Of Counsel" in 2016. Mr. Liskey has a wide variety of experience ranging over his 35 years of legal and business experience. Mr. Liskey graduated from James Madison College at Michigan State University in 1972 and the Thomas M. Cooley Law School in 1980.
Liskey began his career investing in real estate in East Lansing where he successfully obtained a Class C liquor license and opened the Stonehouse Restaurant. During this time period, Mr. Liskey gained first-hand expertise relative to local zoning rules, liquor commission rules, taxes and small business loans.
From 1985 - 2000, Mr. Liskey focused his entrepreneurial spirit on the burgeoning cable television industry. During this timeframe, Mr. Liskey served in several capacities ranging from a system General Manager to a Vice President of Government Affairs. Mr. Liskey attained considerable experience with Access to Premises laws in several states, right-of-way and pole attachment disputes.
Following his experience pioneering the first commercial launch of high-speed cable modem service in the country in East Lansing, Michigan, Liskey became President of a Lansing based Internet Service Provider (ISP) focused on wireless technology. The legal expertise gained through all of these business activities led Mr. Liskey to join the Michigan Attorney General's office as its telecommunications specialist in 2005 as an Assistant Attorney General.
After his service with the Attorney General's office, Liskey went into private practice continuing to work on telecommunications issues at the state legislature and also forming a Michigan non-profit to focus on Upper Peninsula utility issues.
Mr. Liskey brings to Klug Law Firm an expertise in dealing with telecommunications right-of-way, access to premises and service to multiple dwelling units in addition to his broad based business and tax experience.
Mr. Liskey is active in the Community Theatre and is an avid supporter of Michigan State sports.
